The Texada Aerospace Camp and Museum

by Doby Dobrostanski

Picture
The Texada AeroSpace Camp offers four-day camps held during summer in a purpose-built hangar that doubles as an aviation museum for the rest of the year.  Donations of aviation components, paraphernalia and sponsorships are constantly being brought in.

If you or someone you know would like to make a donation to the Texada Aerospace Camp please contact founder and director of the camp and Texada Aviation Museum, Doby Dobrostanski, at: dgart@telus.net
Additionally, if you are interested in the Texada Aerospace Camp, all relevant information and contacts can be found by clicking here.

Throughout the year, at the Texada Aviation Museum and Library, visitors can see the training aids for the AeroSpace Camp, including a favourite item, the famous AirBuzz Mk II flight simulator using the X-Plane computer program. The flight simulator time can be booked online for some fun flying, suitable for adults and teenaged youth. If you would like to visit the museum and book a simulator flight, we encourage you to check out their operational hours and booking times by clicking here. Note: at present time, during the winter season, opening is by appointment only.

The Texada Camp’s two flight simulators, AirBuzz Mk I and II on display at the Comox Airshow in 2017. The smaller simulator is for young children and is equipped with controls that move with pedals and stick and has a Microsoft FSX installed. The monitor screen is located between the wings just in front of the cockpit and the propellor is powered by a geared down electric motor. The fuselage, from the cowling area back is a half scale Sopwith Pup, and the wings are from the same design, although shortened for display space and storage.

The flight simulator is used for training youth and as a float in parades and is often displayed in various festivals and airshows on the Sunshine Coast and on Vancouver Island to promote the camp and to attract tourism to Texada Island. The flight simulator is incredibly realistic with a three-screen display, noise generators and authentic looking cockpit and controls. Many visiting pilots to Texada’s airport come to fly AirBuzz and visit the museum.
