For One Hundred Years, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) has served our country with honour and dedication. A simple thank you cannot truly express Canada’s appreciation for all that RCAF has done for us and other nations in times of peace and conflict.
As a chapter of The Canadian Aviation Historical Society, we felt it was important to give the RCAF its place of honour in our community and to bring this to the citizens of our city. The Medicine Hat Chapter of the CAHS has organized an event held in the Monarch Theater, the oldest operating movie theatre in western Canada.
The evening will begin with a musical interlude of 1940’s music provided by a local jazz band. A sincere welcome followed by a brief background of the RCAF will lead into a series of selected film clips which highlight parts of the history of the RCAF. We will present short clips on the RCAF Golden Hawks, the Avro Arrow, the BCATP, the Search and Rescue branch of the RCAF and finally a moving tribute to the Snowbirds, just to name a few. The program will end with acknowledgements to our sponsors, the owners of the theatre and a final musical interlude.
With the actual date of the establishment of the RCAF being Easter Monday, our chapter has scheduled the event for April 8th, 2024, doors open at 6:30 pm program starts at 7:00 pm. On April 8th 1941, No. 34 Service Flying Training School of the BCATP was officially opened here in Medicine Hat.
What started as an idea over lunch at our local Legion has grown into an exciting event we are pleased to host. We hope to see you there!
