Alis the Aviator: An ABC Aviation Adventure

Report and Photos by
Danielle Metcalfe-Chenail

It's hard to believe it's been two years since I released my first picture book, Alis the Aviator: An ABC Aviation Adventure. Many of you are already familiar with the book, but I know how great it is to hear and see an author read their own book. So, we've prepared a story time you can enjoy with the little ones in your life - even if you're at a physical distance from them!

Also, since all of us are interested in aviation history and love first-person storytelling, I am excited to share a short Q&A we recorded with Dr. Alis B. Kennedy, who helped inspire the book. Dr. Alis is likely the first Indigenous woman in Canada to get her private and commercial land and sea ratings, and certainly a pioneering francophone female pilot. Her engaging style describing some of her flying adventures and the challenges she overcame, are certain to inspire the young people in your life!
