Medicine Hat Family Fun and Flight

The CAHS Medicine Hat Chapter participated in the 2026 Family Fun and Flight Air Show (also known as the Dave Rozdeba Memorial Air Show) on 10 and 11 July 2026. The "Lost 48" display honoured the 48 airmen who lost their lives in training accidents at our local British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) school during the Second World War.

CAHS President Wes Krause led our delegation of executive and board members at the event. Our chapter utilized two shelters to provide refuge from the intense Southern Alberta sun, and our booth was conveniently situated next to the 99s Canada Women in Aviation, allowing visitors to engage with both historical artifacts and current aviators.

The event featured a wide array of displays, including antique automobiles, fire trucks, emergency vehicles, and various aircraft from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) members, alongside local operators. A highlight of the exhibition was the Bomber Command Museum’s demonstration of a Hercules engine. Our treasurer learned that the Royal Air Force (RAF) has donated three new Hercules engines, which had been in storage in England since the 1940s; these will be overhauled and fitted to the Halifax aircraft currently undergoing restoration in Nanton.  The Canadian Armed Forces Skyhawks Parachute Team thrilled the crowd with an amazing demonstration on Friday, 10 July.  On 11 July, the event featured several flying demonstrations, including the HALO helicopter, Yellow Thunder Harvard, and amateur-built aircraft.

Despite the high temperatures, we experienced a strong local turnout. Two hundred people participated in our complimentary draw for two aircraft prints, and we held a successful silent auction for an Avro Arrow print. Overall, it was another highly successful event for the CAHS Medicine Hat "The Lost 48" Chapter.
