Brampton-Caledon Airport Day
Delighted Aviation Fans

Story and photos by Gord McNulty
October 2025

The annual Brampton-Caledon Airport Day on 7 September 2025 was lively, informative and well-attended. Kudos to the volunteers and staff of the Brampton Flight Centre, the Brampton Flying Club and the Great War Flying Museum (GWFM) for a successful event on a sunny day.

Brampton-Caledon Airport Day attracted fans watching GWFM aircraft, including a Nieuport 28 and a Fokker D.VII.

Visitors enjoyed lots of action as the GWFM’s well-known collection of colourful replica aircraft, a tribute to First World War aviators, took flight. Excellent posters on each of the GWFM’s aircraft were displayed in the hangar. The museum’s Sopwith F.1 Camel construction project is a challenging task, but progress continues as evidenced by the framework that was displayed outside.

The museum’s fleet includes a Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter; a Nieuport 28; a Fokker D.VII; a Fokker Dr.1 Triplane in the famous “red baron” colours of Baron Manfred von Richtofen; a full-scale S.E.5a; and an 85 per cent scale S.E.5a.

As part of recent downsizing, I donated two boxes of a quality collection of First World War aviation photos, books and files in my father’s collection to the GWFM, a CAHS Museum Member. The GWFM appreciated the items, and I appreciated a helping hand from the air cadets of Brampton’s 892 (Snowy Owl) Squadron.

Speaking of donations, the Region of Peel Archives displayed vintage aviation photos of aircraft activity at Malton over the years. Buttons depicting the Avro Arrow, the Avro Lancaster X built by Victory Aircraft and more were distributed. The Region is seeking documents relating to life in Peel Region (comprising Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga) and, in their words, “will gratefully consider all sorts of records” with a Peel connection.

Attendees lined up to enjoy a wagon ride tour of the airport provided by the Flight Centre and the Flying Club. Of note, the Flight Centre restaurant features a continuous live video of the action at Pearson International Airport. For its part, the Flying Club was established in 1946.

There isn’t any doubt that from contemporary light aviation to the aeronautics of the past, all bases are being covered at the busy Brampton-Caledon Airport these days.

The GWFM's diverse aircraft are invariably a popular attraction at every Brampton-Caledon Airport Day.
