Royal Flying Corps Hangars to be designated a National Historic Site
An invitation to attend the ceremony at Borden

Lou Wise Photo

On the 2nd of May 2002, 16 Wing will observe the 85th anniversary of the Royal Flying Corps Canada officially taking control of the then newly constructed aerodrome and flying station at Borden. A ceremony will take place at 10:30 hours in Building A-171 (Stedman Building) located at 82 Argus Crescent, Borden. The ceremony will feature the unveiling of a plaque from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada commemorating the designation of the Royal Flying Corps Hangars as a National Historic Site. This anniversary marks a significant milestone in the history of military aviation in Canada and the planned ceremony provides us with an opportunity to pay tribute to our Air Force history and heritage in Borden, the birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

We would be honoured if the members of your organization and their spouse or guest would accept our invitation to join us in marking this historic event. Confirmation of your attendance is respectfully requested by contacting Mrs. Sue Eastaugh at 705-424-1200 ext 3533. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding this event, please feel free to contact L.G. Gillis Colonel Wing Commander at 705-423-2398 or Normand Marion 16 Wing Public Affairs Officer at 705-424-1200 ext 2815.
