Aircraft Restorations at the BC Air Museum

September 16, 2004
- To-day I was working stripping parts off a Harvard 2 airframe for our Harvard project.
- Victoria Air Maintenance donated some of their leftover parts now that the Texan AT-6A and Harvard 4 are nearing completion.
- Jack Kingerlee ( ex-Viking Air Metal magician) has been repairing control surfaces for weeks.
- Work is proceeding on the Lincoln Sport once again.
- Does anyone have a spare P&W R-1340 and cowlings in their back shed ? What about undercarriage legs and wheels?
- The R-R Nene 10 is now installed in T-33 462. Painting of cockpit underway.
- Lincoln Sport Project. Fuselage moved to Restoration Hangar. Vernon Turley who led the Anson project is in charge. .Installation of the vertical fin in progress. The Upper Wing has been moved into the restoration hangar.

This should be an interesting day at BCAM. They are going to move the Anson from the restoration hangar to the main hangar. However there are a few obstacles to overcome like moving a Bristol Hercules engine and T-33.

Notes - As usual the Air Cadets from the summer camp at Albert Head are coming to the museum. Nice bunch of kids.

July 21, 2004
BCAM
Norseman
- First Taxi tests on Monday.
- They had the tail in the air but did not take off. All systems are fine except says it is a little light in the tail.

Anson
Final painting in progress by Dick and Jackie Frampton.
A new Tail Tow bar has been made for the Anson.

Martin Mars Corner
- a new display has been constructed with the newly donated 12 ft. Mars model hanging overhead and the Wright R-3350 engine (on the deck of course) as the centerpiece.
- This is accompanied by photos of the Mars, A-26 and other waterbombers. A production by Dick and Jackie Frampton. You will probably recall that Dick is the V-P and Jackie -Secretary of our CAHS- Vancouver Island Chapter.

Yesterday was the 35 anniversary of the Moonwalk as you know. At Lahr we were holding a Cub Camp . The Cubs and Leaders watched the event on my TV. I wonder where everyone is now?

Victoria Air Maintenance
Grumman Goose
- Damage to port wing under repair

YAK 18T
- Reg # LZ-521 assembled and being prepared for first engine runs

Cabin Waco
- finished painting. No registation yet.

Turbo Otter
- finished painting;  It looks like it's ready for delivery.

Fuselage - Last covering - under rear fuselage last section in progress.
Control surfaces- painting in progress.

Sikorsky S-55
Painting finished in RCN markings "961 * Y". Rotors installed and folded. Needs new tire and tube.

Lincoln Sport
- Chuck Haigh working on undercarriage.

Buccaneer
- Wreckage of Tony Onley's a/c has been donated to BCAM.by his widow.

Notes: - we have an A/S Cheetah 10 engine. This is possibly a future restoration project.

- Fuselage fully covered, Painting - first base coats in progress
- Horizontal Stabilizer painting completed
- Rudder painted
- Control surfaces - awaiting painting.
- Cockpit instrument panel repainted; Interior switch panels painting in progress
- Wings - fabric covering being applied over the plywood
There was a line in Max Ward's book that Lord Anson was a British Admiral who harassed Spanish
shipping in 1744. It's sort of strange that an aircraft was named after an admiral.

Sikorsky S-55
- finished painting in RCN markings
It has been moved out of the restoration hangar and will be sited in front of the main hangar on the lawn.

Harvard 4
- rudder and elevator repaired
- Aft fuselage section repair in progress

Victoria Air Maintenance
Grumman Albatross
- now has yellow floats and tail markings

Ryan ST
- fuselage skin replacement completed
- horizontal stabilizer and rudder trial fitted
- the fuselage fuselage tail cone is on the rudder
- centre section installed
- rudder pedals being fitted
It is shaping up to be a beautiful restoration.

Yak12M (alias Gawron 101)
- restoration in progress
The Polish built engine has an identity plate "Made in Poland". Curious?

YAK 18T
- Russ Popel is working on the YAK 18T

N.A.A. Texan (1941)
- now has its blue wings on

RCMP Bell Jetranger C-GMPA
- beautiful paint job

Notes:
There was an Air Canada BAE146 in Victoria yesteerday. Apparently they will be taken out of service in September.

Steven Harper's Airbus was here on Tuesday. "Conservative " on the port side and "Conservateur"
on the stbd. side. Paul Martin flew in last week in a Boeing 727. For Philip Kemp - We here are in the midst of a national election. Paul Martin is the incumbent P.M. and Harper is his opponent hoping to become P.M.

- Baliff's seizure of a Citabaria on floats. too bad. Nice a/c . It even had a left cockpit door

May 8, 2004

- Painting as RCN HO4S underway.

T-33 462
- Forward and Rear cockpit instrument repainted
- Seats removed to clean and repaint cockpit.
- Polishing fuselage in progress.

Lincoln Sport
- Wings transported back to Pat Bay.
- Fuselage frame completed
- all new brackets and cables.

Tailplane
- Horizontal stabilizer- underway.
- A/c temporarily halted to complete Anson for Open House August 9

1952 Forklift Repair
- underway by a Rocket Scientist. He really was a rocket scientist in California.

Norseman
- ready for taxi tests.

On the airport
- Atlas Bosbok (Bushbuck) SAAF 949
- Fwd Air Controllers Aircraft. Developed Aeromacchi 3C and Lockheed AL-60.
- Apache on floats.

February 22, 2004

Auster
- Elevators, Rudder installed
- Tires and brakes on
- Looks like a real airplane now

T-33 -462
- Front and rear instrument panels restoring in progress
- Seats removed for cockpit cleaning and restoration
- Repairs to engine air intakes underway

Victoria Air Maintenance
2 YAK18T's arrived from Bulgaria in a container.

A Ryan ST is in for major overhaul and restoration of the cockpit opening to the original size

A Turbo Mallard is in for minor work.

In progress is an Italian Army SM 1019 (L-19 with an Allison turboprop) for a customer. There is one flying already and it reportedly climbs like the proverbial "homesick angel".

Harvard and Texan progressing.
- Apparently the Harvard 4 is going to be a Reno Racer.

A Maule is nearing completion.

They sold an Ercoupe sight unseen on E-Bay.

A 3rd Legends (1/2 scale Mustang) a/c is under construction
- As you probably know it is mainly carbon fibre material and is powered by a Czech M-601 turboprop
