And now for something completely different...
The next meeting of our chapter of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society will be a joint venture with the local wing (or chapter) of the Air Force Association of Canada (formerly the RCAF Association). Our two groups, which have a lot of overlapping interests and membership, have held joint Christmas banquets in the past, always as the Regina Flying Club.
This year, we're joining the AFAC 600 Wing and its members for a Christmas supper at the Royal United Services Institute, which is at 1660 Elphinstone St. -- the RUSI is the white one-story building south of the Regina Armory.
This supper takes place on the evening of Thursday, Dec.9, drinks at 6 p.m. and supper at 7 p.m. The AFAC needs a "head count", so it asks those attending to R.S.V.P. to the AFAC's Lyn Chamberlain at 949-4491 NO LATER THAN Dec. 5.
Cost: $20 per person.
Dress: semi-formal.
(Say, did we mention that you have to R.S.V.P. NO LATER THAN DEC. 5?)
Among the events that evening will be CAHS member Geoff Hillier's talk on the flying gauntlets left to him by his late father, a member of the RAF killed in action in 1944.
This is probably as good a place as any to mention the future speakers we're arranged:
January: Dave Wilson, whose father worked for the famous Orenda engine works in the 1950s;
February: Col. Alain Boyer, wing commander of 15 Wing, Moose Jaw, on his own career and on recent developments at the training base.
March: Harold Eley, on the renowned Regina Gliding & Soaring Club, which was the talk of the town in the 1950s and '60s.
We apologize for any cross-postings. We just wanna get the word out!
(Oh, yeah ... for the supper, you have to R.S.V.P. NO LATER THAN DEC. 5)
