- The next meeting of the Alberta Chapter
of the Canadian Aviation Historic Society will be on 7 March 2002. The
location is the Aviation Museum on Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton City Centre
Airport. The doors will be open at 1830 hours and the meeting will
start at 1900 hours.
- Our guest speaker will be Mr Don
Douglas, a well known aviator, who has flown with the RCAF, Spartan and DOT.
Don has a particular love of the North and is currently Director of the
Northern Air Transport Association. Don will be speaking on his varied career
and his many experiences in aviation.
- Please join us for the evening. Mary
and Gord Oswald are looking after the arrangements and look forward to seeing
you there. Last meeting a couple did not get in to join us as they found the
door locked. If this happens to you please use the door bell and someone will
open it for you. We need to keep it locked after the doorkeeper leaves as we
are located well back in the museum.
- Coffee will be served. We will continue
to sell donated videos, books and journals. Please bring anything aviation
related that you may wish to donate to support the club. Last meeting we
raised nearly $50 for the club.
- Come on out and support your club.

News
- Thanks to Mary Oswald our Operations
and Public Relations Officer, I am able to announce that we have speakers for
the 7 February 2002 meeting and for the 7 March 2002 meeting.
- Ray Rohr , Rt. Commanding Officer 418
Squadron, will speak on the 7 February, on the history of 418 Squadron.
- Don Douglas, ex. RCAF, TSB, Transport
Canada, industry and now with the Northern Air Transportation Association,
will speak on the 7 March 2002. Topic to be announced.
- I would also propose that at the 7
February meeting we have a book and video sale after Ray's speech. Any
books or video you wish to dispose of could be sold and the cash could go into
our Chapter account for use towards equipment, etc. Gerry and I will bring
coffee and sticky buns; the usual landing fee system will be in place.
- Your executive works very hard to make
the Chapter viable and we need your support by you attending the meetings. If
everyone could bring a friend or two it will make a proper audience for the
quest speakers. It is very difficult to retain our organisers morale if we do
not get better turnouts. It also is very demotivating for our speakers to have
a limited audience.
- The more people we get out the better
we will be known. We have much history out here in Alberta and someday it
would be great to be able to match the Toronto or Ottawa numbers. A little
friendly east/west competition!
- We are approaching 60 members now and
Gary Watson, our Southern Alberta Officer, will soon be very active recruiting
in the Calgary area.

Aviation Heritage Dinner
- On Saturday October 20, 2001 we will be
holding an Aviation Heritage Dinner at the Air Museum on Kingsway in Edmonton.
- The presenter is Denny May speaking
about his father Wop May. It should be a fun evening catered by a fine
caterer.. Good food and a good subject.
- Call Gerry at 780-435-0690 for ticket
sales or the Alberta Aviation Council Office

Wednesday March 21, 2001
- Col. Don Matthews will provide us with
an interesting evening consisting of a presentation and a discussion on The
Canadian Airforce's operations in the Gulf war and Peacekeeping in Haiti. He
was the Canadian Commander in both operations.
- If anyone is in Edmonton on March 21 you are welcome to
attend.
